needs your advice

Does anyone out there know anything about animation?  I have a vision I wish to realise and I think it must be in the form of a one minute animated film.  What type of software should I check out?  Can I do it with hand sketches imported into the computer?  Is there an option of creating everything directly in the computer? 

I'd love for someone with this kind of experience to send me advise!  So if I could get you to go ahead and do that, that'd be great.  Thaaaanks.
