sunday, june 10, 2007 .... saturday, june 9, 2007 .. .. friday, june 8, 2007 bad thief i'm at a fancy hardware store where all the cashiers use Macintosh computers. I'm shopping for a basic plastic box. Even though I can't imagine they're very expensive, I want to steal one so I put it and all its parts in my pocket. Than I fear that the attendant for that section has seen me and quietly radioed me in, but I'll just tell them I put it in my pocket for storage until I go to checkout. I also remember looking at a map of the Bay Area, maybe Google Earth, and a spot is marked for the Fantasy Building. thursday, june 7, 2007 PowerNight For some reason I'm up at 4am and I stop by PowerLight. There are dozens of people milling around, the remains of those who worked a very late night. Some are still working (Matt is there, cranking away at a deadline), others are passing bottles around and having a grand old time. It's a party! Eventually everyone stops working and gets rowdy. I didn't know about these late-night soirees. I have a bit of work to finish, which I do on someone else's computer before joining the fun. Now it is a mix of people who worked late and others who show up early... Later I end up sleeping in an apartment that is part of a big UCSD-style concrete building with catwalks connecting bits of the floors. It's quite a hike to the bathroom. wednesday, june 6, 2007 spontaneous earth bread I pull an extremely delicate and beautiful lava rock out of a square steel channel where a man has stored several of them. He is eager for me and a friend to see the rock but loves it very much and is sensitive about it as well. It is pink and folded like a sheet of naan. At work I sit with Jonathan to discuss things. Feeling guilty about having grabbed about a third of the homemade cookies off his desk, I offer him some bread... it is a very curious bread that I found. There was a very loud sustained noise and when it ended, workers stood around and watched the windows where it came from... I guess firemen has hammered the windows (facing San Pablo) with hose water, and long tubes of raisin bread rose in the aftermath. Jonathan's theory is that all the ingredients, such as yeast, were already in the air, and it just took the right warm and damp environment to spontaneously make bread. It's yummy. When he suggests that I'm falling behind in my work because I take a lot of time off I reply, with tears brimming in my eyes, that I haven't taken a single day of vacation since I started here, and that I've been working 50-hour weeks. tuesday, june 5, 2007 .. .. monday, june 4, 2007 ... ... |
