NOTE: The Summer Film Festival is (obviously) over come enjoy with us... the Summer Outdoor Film Festival! Earlier this summer, while enjoying the pleasant company of Todd's and Amy's friends at a classic courtyard barbeque, a few suggested that the enormous two-story blank white wall facing the courtyard from an adjacent rotary building would make an excellent projection screen for movies. Well, they were so right! After a preliminary slide show to successfully test the wall's potential, we have launched directly into a summer film festival! It is something that I have been wanting to do for years, and finally we have all the right equipment and a perfect venue for it. There are few things I enjoy more than a film outdoors on a warm summer evening. There are so many directions we could take with this opportunity to gather people together to watch movies. We have decided that the best approach will be to attempt to present excellent and worthy material that most people would otherwise never have the opportunity to enjoy. There is so much amazing film out there that this becomes simultaneously an exciting and daunting task. Social hour begins at 8PM and all films begin at 9PM. Bring food and drink for yourself if you want it, and maybe something to snuggle up in if it turns cold. If you are a lover of film you may also wish to participate in my Stranded on a Desert Island Project or Mitch and Erica's FliFiMov. July 12: The Big Blue, Luc Besson, 1988 July 18: The Hudsucker Proxy, Cohen Brothers, 1994 August 9: Heaven, Tom Tykwer, 2002 ATTENTION! The film series is suspended for the time being. We are currently scoping out San Diego for a potential venue with the following qualifications. If you know of such a place, let us know! 1) venue must be outdoors 2) venue must have seating area for approximately 20 people (cozily is okay) 3) venue must feature a large unlit white wall 4) venue must have a grounded power outlet (110V AC, 60Hz preferred) within 30 meters or so. 5) venue must be in an area where nobody will complain about loud noise between the hours of 8pm and midnight on a weekend. I have seen movies projected on the east wall of the art museum in Balboa Park; I wonder if you need a permit for that. I suppose we could just try and find out...
