During my time in Atlanta, I found a wonderful bike coop called SOPO (south of ponce), set up as a nonprofit community service to make bicycling accessible to all, through various public events, and by maintaining this workshop, complete with tools and heaps of parts, to repair bikes and teach people how to do so.

Here we see Rachel and Jay and David, who all helped me immensely along the way. Not pictured are Helen and another guy whose name I sadly forgot. Thanks to all of you!

This Raleigh I bought at a local thrift store for $10. I reworked the bottom bracket (new bearings and a thorough scraping), replaced the chain ring and rear derailleur, replaced the rear tire, and added my seat, clipless pedals, light, rack, and panniers with Stefan was kind enough to find in my mom's attic and ship to me. The other bike (not pictured here), a "Free Spirit", was a donation from danika's unknowing landlord; it had been rusting in their backyard for years.

I put an ad on Craigslist about how much I want panniers. Kevin here was so kind to donate a set of small panniers, a headlight with generator, and a rack bag. Thank you KC!

Bill here also responded and from him I got another set of small panniers and that special tool that allows you to take your crank arms off. I love meeting strangers in this fashion. Bill told me: "Reality is measured as the interval(s) between involuntary thought, so enjoy this precious time in your life!"

This is Mike's Free Spirit loaded up for our test run. The back pannier set came from Huan (who I forgot to photograph) along with a miniature pump. Thank you Davey for donating the bike!

And here is the $10 Raleigh. Those rear panniers I found at Tinker's Workshop in Berkeley.
