This article came from the San Diego Union Tribune. I thoroughly despise that institution as an irresponsible source of news, which is why I have copied the text here rather than submit you to their annoying pop-up advertising.
If you wish to visit the source regardless, it is here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20030819-1253-gaslampslay.html
The fatal stabbing occurred in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.
Arriving patrol officers found the victim in a doorway and covered in blood, SDPD Lt. Jim Duncan said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
"The victim appeared to have suffered numerous stab wounds to the upper torso," Duncan said.
Witnesses described seeing a tall, blond-haired white man in bloodstained clothing running away to the south and west with a large knife in his hand.
He appeared to be in his 20s or early 30s, about 6 feet 4 and 165-190 pounds. He was wearing khaki shorts, a blue shirt and white shoes, the lieutenant said.
"At this time, we have no motive for the murder," Duncan added.
Officials withheld the victim's name pending notification of his relatives.
